Questions about what it’s like to work together?

Here are some of the most common questions I get about working together. If you don’t see your question answered below, contact me.

  • I require 2 full business days to cancel or reschedule. Please notify me via email if you need to cancel or reschedule. To clarify, the cancellation/change of appointment request needs to be received by email on a business day, Monday-Friday, in order to be honored. For example, Tuesday appointment at 3 pm would be canceled or rescheduled the Friday before. Any late cancellations/reschedules or no-shows will result in full fee payment for the missed session. Payment will be due at the time of cancellation or missed session.

Canceling/rescheduling requests for the 6 session evaluation:

Once we agree to the date & time for a series of 6 weekly appointments for the evaluation, a cancellation of any of the appointment times means we cannot complete the evaluation, and due to the nature of my schedule, it is unlikely that I can accommodate a rescheduling of these 6 consecutive appointments.

Canceling/rescheduling requests for weekly therapy appointments:

When we schedule our weekly time for therapy sessions, this is a commitment we both make to your son’s wellbeing. I will do my best to offer an alternative option, with advance notice (minimum 2 full business days), but due to the nature of my schedule, I may be unable to find an alternative.

I believe that for the best treatment outcomes, sessions need to occur at a regular weekly time.

  • The parents may come instead of the son to discuss their current concerns.

  • All of our sessions are face-to-face. In rare and extenuating circumstances we may be able to arrange a virtual appointment.

  • I do not accept insurance. I am considered an out-of-network provider.

If you have a PPO-type plan and want to submit a claim yourself for out-of-network potential reimbursement from your insurance company, I can give you a receipt that can be used for that purpose. Please note that submitting an insurance claim means that I will need to give your son a mental health diagnosis, which goes into your permanent health record.

  • I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance. I collect payment directly from you on the day of service, at the appointment start time.

You may pay by Venmo, cash, or personal check.

  • To learn more about the 6 evaluation process see the evaluation link here.

  • Once we complete the 6 session evaluation process, and if we agree to move forward with therapy for your son or you as parents, we will meet once a week. I do not see boys, teen boys, or parents less than once a week as it prevents the evaluation and treatment from having the continuity and intensity essential to making a true difference in our work together.

On occasion, some boys or teen boys that are profoundly struggling, in crisis, and are at risk for harming themselves or others may require being seen 2-3 times a week as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization, residential care, and/or intensive outpatient psychiatric care.

Typical duration of treatment for play or talking therapy:

I will meet with your son for 6 months to 1-2 years, depending on the initial concerns/issues, severity and duration of these problems, and history of previous treatment of child/teen & family or parents.

Typical duration of therapy for parenting support:

I will meet with parents weekly for a minimum of 3 months. Again, this depends on the initial concerns/issues and severity/duration of you and your son’s struggles and history of previous treatment.

  • Congress enacted a “No Surprises Act” on January 1, 2022. It is meant to protect insured consumers from surprise medical bills when they inadvertently receive care from out-of-network hospitals, doctors, or other providers that they did not “choose”.

I am an “out of network” provider for all insurance companies. You will always be made aware of the cost of sessions with me via my website, consent forms and through verbal confirmation directly with me. I am and will remain clear and transparent about the costs of services agreed upon. You may ask me directly about any costs about which you may be unsure, and you will be provided with clear and direct information and answers to your questions.

  • Fees are:

For each of the 6 sessions of the initial evaluation: $250 for each 45 min session

For 45 minute play therapy/talking therapy or parenting session: $225 for each 45 minute session

For a 45 minute Parent Feedback follow up session (usually every 3 months): $338 for each 45 minute session *which includes treatment review for the prior 3 months*
